What happened to Wes Streeting?
Within seconds of condemning Glastonbury death chants he had pivoted to criticising Israel.
So chants of “death to the IDF” at Glastonbury proved too much even for the Labour front bench. Yay! Be grateful for small blessings while you’ve got them. They probably won’t last long.
The way things are going, even this high-water mark will have become normalised by next year, as the Left moves inexorably through the spectrum of bigotry, from equivocation and whataboutery to open hostility towards “Zionists”, from bloodlust to terrorism and lynchings. After the Palestine Action vandalism at Brize Norton, how long will it be before we see the murder of those two Israeli diplomats in Washington DC echoed on British shores?
Perhaps I’m being too pessimistic. But it’s men like Wes Streeting that cause me to take a rather dark view of our national prospects. Before Labour came to power, Streeting was one of the sensible ones, the brightest talent in the shadow cabinet and apparently a reasonable friend of Israel. Fast-forward to today and we have seen how thin that veneer has been.
